The Solatube skylight can be installed in 3 or 4 hours, depending on the difficulty of roof and attic access.

I've never had a leak with my Solatube unit. Can't speak to the ice dam and snow issue because the homes that I installed these on were in South Florida and North Georgia. Wind driven rain is not a problem - never a leak. It's only snowed 4 or 5 inches once in recent years here in Georgia - never enough to pile up and stick around for more than a few days. A good question to ask your local Solatube distributor!

Sorry, one more thing....do you for see any leaking issues. I was an insurance adjustor ( proudly owning cougars paws) and often dealt with leaking skylights due to snow and ice dams. Do these seem fairly water tight? Thanks again!

Just stumbled upon this post and was wondering how long it takes to install? We don't have as steep a roof, however we would have more thing install necessary in the attic space... Guessing approx 10 ft. Could you give me a ballpark so I know what to expect in my contractors bid? Thanks!

I bought my Solatube kit from PMC Building Materials in Marietta, GA - phone (770) 427-9770.

Depending on where you live, your best bet might be to visit the Solatube web site to find a local dealer.

Thanks,
Bob Jackson

Bob,

Thank you for your Solatube installation details. I have two in my house which need to be moved and I may add one as well. I'm sure I will need some replacement parts at a minimum. Where did you purchase your kit?

Thank you,
Sandra
