A wood chisel is used to expose the staples in window casing. This is a much quicker method of exposing the staple so it can be pulled out. Note: the chisel does not make contact with the staple, otherwise you’ll dull the cutting edge.

The new astragal is an extruded aluminum unit to replace the split wooden astragal. Installation was easy, requiring only a cordless drill/driver.

This project explains how to replace the t-astragal (or simply astragal) on a pair of exterior doors. An astragal is the moulding attached to the inactive door, that contains the slide bolts, strike plate and weatherstrip to seal between the doors. The new t-astragal is highlighted in this photo.

Having cut the mortises for the new Hager BB1279 ball bearing door hinges, I’m ready to attach the new hinges to the door. A long aluminum channel that doubles as a rip fence to cut plywood with my circular saw is used to align the hinges.
