How to install a bauco rondo drywall access panel by Access Panel Solutions in a suspended drywall ceiling. This project is continued from How to Install a bauco rondo Drywall Access Panel – Part 2.
bauco rondo Drywall Access Panel Installation
The 12″ bauco rondo drywall access panel mounted in the drywall ceiling as viewed from crawlspace. Red safety caps provided with the unit cover the sharp drywall screws to prevent injury or tearing your shirt.
HVAC Condensate Drain Tube
The 12″ bauco rondo is large enough to get my head and one arm through to reach the HVAC condensate drain tube sewer line connection:
Now I can see what’s going on with the HVAC condensate drain tube connection to the PVC sewer line. The condensate pump lifts the water through the flexible drain tube. The drain tube is zip-tied to a nail in the floor joist with a water trap loop to prevent sewer gases from passing back through the tube. The flexible tube connects to a brass nipple adapter that empties into the top of the sewer line wye.
bauco rondo Access Panel: Drywall Finishing
I used 6″ and 12″ drywall finishing knives, mud pan and Sheet Rock brand All Purpose Joint Compound to fill the gap around the access panel and screw dimples on the ceiling. Note the large drop cloth protect the carpet.
The gap between the bauco rondo frame and ceiling is filled with the drywall joint compound using the 6 inch knife. Apply the joint compound working towards the frame to minimize the amount of compound inside the rim.
The joint compound is smoothed and feathered with the ceiling using the 12″ drywall knife. Allow the joint compound to dry and wet sand. Repeat if necessary with a thin coat of joint compound to seamlessly blend with the ceiling, let dry and wet sand. You shouldn’t be able to feel any bumps or ridges when complete. Clean the frame and rubber gasket to remove any joint compound or dust with a damp cloth.
Also fill the bauco rondo access panel door with joint compound so it’s even with the rim (bottom of photo):
After finishing the drywall, I rolled on two coats of bright white Sherwin-Williams Eminence™ Ceiling Paint in a flat finish.

Great solution for my current build …home office in my basement. I went with a 14″ access panel to the water line shutoff that I boxed around and concealing noise was important. I ordered it, now contemplating …”how many more do need”.
Thanks Bob!
“How many more do I need” has crossed my mind too! At least I know that if I have to cut a hole in the drywall ceiling to work on plumbing/electric/gas/etc. I can install a professional looking access panel afterwards.
